vice.run
is a movement to reclaim our right to a democratically elected vice president. We’re collecting ballot access pledges calling on states to create a separate ballot line for the vice presidency in 2020.

“ The Constitution gives the American people the right to choose the vice president of the United States. That right was taken from us by the party ballot. That lack of democracy has corrupted the office, turning it into a presidential lap dog, instead of a representative of ‘We the People.’
It’s time for that approach to change. It’s time to reclaim the vice presidency for the American people. It’s time for us to elect the vice president. ”
David Blake, co-founder of vice.run
A needed change
Most Americans prefer a more democratic approach to choosing the vice president. Americans also prefer a vice president who acts as ‘Unifier in Chief,’ bridging the divide between our parties and delivering solutions that last.

Nothing in the Constitution would need to change for someone to run separately for the vice presidency.

Sign the pledge for vice presidential ballot access
865,000 signatures nationwide
Each state requires a certain number of signatures to put a vice presidential candidate on its ballot. In 2016, those state signature requirements added up to 865,000 nationwide. We’re using that number to guide our signature pledge goals in each state. When we meet the goal of 865,000 pledges, we will send a powerful signal of the support for our movement. We will engage the board of elections in each state to determine how to bring this to fruition for the 2020 presidential election.
Roll over your state to see how many signatures are needed. Sign the pledge to call for change—and share with your friends!

It’s time to reclaim the vice presidency.
The Constitution gives the American people the right to choose the vice president. That right was taken from the people by the party ballot, weakening the office and the democratic principles we stand for.
Why is this important now? Because the vice presidency is uniquely suited to negotiate complex issues in an era of partisanship and divided government. Only the vice president has a formal role in the executive and legislative branches. Only the vice president has the power to pull the parties together with the tie-breaking vote in the Senate.
By signing this pledge, I call on my state to create a separate ballot line for the vice presidency in 2020.
